College football has rivalry week at the end of the season, college basketball has bracket buster weekends. College hockey, with multiple matchups per season, does not have a similar event, but if they did the past two weekends would qualify as Rivalry 8 Days. A week after Minnesota-Wisconsin renewed the border battle while Boston College-Boston University squared off, this weekend sees 5 rivalry series across 5 conferences. Early Impressions of Danton Cole’s Michigan State Spartans

The Michigan State Spartans stand at 4-2 early in the 2017-18 season, including an impressive 4-0 in the friendly confines of Munn Ice Arena. Now no one is saying the first three series; Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Lake Superior State is not exactly a murderer’s row of opponents, and things will get harder quick (beginning with a series at Minnesota this weekend), but this is still a start that should be recognized. Yours truly has been able to catch the Spartans live twice in the early going and I felt it was relevant to discuss what I see on the ice in the early going of the Danton Cole era.

This week saw Danton Cole and the Michigan State Spartans continue their hot streak, earning a 4th and 5th commitment in 2 weeks, and saw a top 2002 birthdate also choose a B1G school. It would be hard to top the 15 commitments of last week, but while this week has lower quantity it certainly is not hurting for quality. This week the recruiting for 2020-21 got into full gear with 5 commitments that far out.
